The Sentosa Series

Mellies and I went to Sentosa on Saturday, where we cycled from Siloso Beach, through the Jungle Trail, the Mythology Trail, the Ruined City and all sort of crap that those nice people in Sentosa placed along the way, before passing Palawan Beach and Dolphin Beach, and ending up in Tanjong Beach, where we looked for the elusive Chon! We yelled and screamed (OK, I yelled and screamed) for The Chons while Mellies said NO STOP! STOP YELLING! Finally we found The Chons, at the furtest possible end of Sentosa. It was such a happy re-union. The Chons looked tired, for the bozo parked his van at Beach Carpark when there is one just next to Tanjong Beach.

We then made our way back, lower limbs numbed, our bodies sweaty and we were in desperate need of a nap AND a shower.

While I secretly took a picture of the bikes from the bushes.

She then found a JAMBU in front of the gazebo, which makes us very excited and happy.

We finally found the Chons in all his glory.

We continued cycling and I decided to take pictures of dying flowers while Mellies decided she wanted to cycling through them. We did them both.

I took a random shot of ropes.

While Mellies took a random shot of her chipped toes.

And as we cycled back, we saw the heavens shining down on our little island.

And decided one photo was simply not enough.

god damn the sleep beast!!!
first of all i study for one out of three subjects for a quiz... of which i overslept. after that i more or less totalled the other two. then planning to fetch my dad at midnight at the airport, i took a nap at 830, asking TWO friends to wake me up at 1030.
i forgot my hp was on silent. anyway it's now 330am and i missed my dad's arrival and i missed meeting mellie. these few nights sleeping in hall has been the worst experience ever. its so goddamned bad i want to get the fuck out. everything just feels so fucked up, nothing's going right. exams start in one and a half weeks and i've hardly prepared. so bloody tired. i think i'll go home now.

Polyphasic Sleep

Greetings! Iv just had a good read at stevepavlina.com about polyphasic sleep... instead of studying for my quiz on friday..
but yeah anyways this new thing i just read about, polyphasic sleep, is basically taking 30min naps every 4 hours, effectively reducing sleepytime to 3 hours a day and pushing waking hours up to 20!
cuz a normal sleep cycle is about 90mins where REM sleep (deep sleep with dreams) comes at the later part. polyphasic sleep cycles of 30min would force the body to push rem sleep up to immediately after dozing off! This also reportedly makes each nap more susceptible to dreams, additionally making them move vivd. Lucid dreams are also more frequent this way.
So yup, i have reviewed my timetable and settled on my sleeping times. 8am, 12noon, 4pm, 8pm, 12midnight and 4am. 30 mins of sleep followed by 3.5 hours of fun! i'll be doing a soft of log-book thingy but dont wanna cramp up churromagnet, so that means reverting back to donkeypoo at livejournal.

totally drove over to malaysia with chonchon and bought some "goods"! did you know those guys over there actually have a licence for their pirated CD shop? talk about legit... har har.

anyhoo i got 4 CDs ... the most worth it would have to be the adobe creative suite installer... it has all the CS2 versions of adobe software and a whole bunch of other shit. 22 programs in one DVD! and some even have 2 versions.. fuckin awesome! had to download a keygen program to get it to work, and work it does. so that is all that matters!

finaalllyyy i have illustrator CS2! and every other program that is asked for in any graphic designer job! btw photoshop CS2 is fuckin awesome. so much new shit, but most importantly, i don't have to reset my calendar to 2003 everytime i need to use photoshop. all my brushes have been reset though, a minor setback. har!

my precciooussssssss. now all i gotta do is install me my real windows and i can go get IE7 and WMP11 and stop using this piece of shit firefox.

so i thought about how i want to be a graphic designer but i've never really designed anything in my life.. umm yeah!! that made me realize what a sucka i was =( so i shall try and churn out designs and experiment with new shit NEW SHIT evuhreeday and by the end of .. an undisclosed amount of time, i'll have ... A LOTS A LOTS of things to show!! okie ive never been to art school or whatever, so i shall pretty much be figuring things out by myself =(. what i realized is that vector art is pretty important. but alas, i do not have illustrator .. and i do not enjoy flash very much. so in the meantime i shall try and emulate it with my best friend, poopooshop. first time i ever attended an ndp... it was pretty kickass!! though i kinda suck at taking fireworks cuz i get too excited and either totally miss them or get really shitty shots, haha. my uncle had the cool vip seats while he gave the rest of us less cool normal seats, but still cool nevertheless.

the MCs sucked SOOOO BAD i wanted to throw rocks at them. the only few lines they know are "it's your birthday singapore!!" "make some noise!!" "screaaaam!!!". wow, that take you a few months to prepare for? so when they asked us to make some noise, me and chun yelled like we were being killed by wild grizzlies. we weren't even screaming with the crowd, we were kinda doing our own thing yelling random shit. it sounded bad, you know the kinda screams you hear the character in a movie giving just before he gets killed by some psycho? it is the YARRRRRGGGHHHH of pure awesome. and that scared the little kids in front, so it was hilarious :) though my stomach hurt a lot after that cuz we pulled out all the stops, haha.

and you know how they always give those blow up stick things that people make the most irritating sounds with? we figured how to beat the system, yeeSsssSsss... all you have to do is make sure you're the one making the most irritating vomit-inducing noises with those things. people around you will magically stop, even the kids. it's brilliant! well you gotta deal with people's death glares after that, but a little death glare never hurt me. i'm pretty used to it, people death glare at me all the time. i dunno what their deal is though. fuckers. hahahha...

anyhoo i had an awesome time :) it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be and the fireworks were orgasmic. here comes the motherload! (photos without watermarks taken by chun)

dad noticed a dragonfly next to our little koi pond and told me to come take a pic of it. he took the first one and i took the second one coz i was too scared to get closer to it. haha. i was talking to it. i think i said "HERROW DRAGONFRY ... you dont fly away ah!! you.. you dont ah!!" yes. it does calm the nerves.

i think it was laying eggs because it kept flying away and coming back to the same spot. perhaps those yellow dots on its wing are the eggs.

this is not an appropriate post because there is nothing related to photography in this but damn. how many of you watched nacho libre, eh? wasn't it AWESOME? and no i'm not talking about the actual movie. i'm talking about the audience. this is like .. a few general pointers about the audience to take note of when you watch comedy movies in singapore (unless you're guilty of doing this...):

1. everyone laughs real loud at shit that isn't even funny.
2. everyone laughs even louder at scenes that are hideously cliche and overdone.
3. everyone doesn't laugh at obvious jokes because they're too stupid to even get it
4. everyone laughs at shit they've already seen in trailers eleventy million divided by zero times
5. everyone goes "eeEEeeeeeee" at scenes that aren't even very "Eeeee"-worthy. god i hate people who say "eeeee". DIE.
6. everyone repeats the joke that was just said on screen. yes yes, we got it the first time, dumbass

got the photos developed ... damn, traditional photography is challenging. no way in hell are the real photos these saturated, my scanner just seems to have awesome colour pickup.

shot with ISO 200 film (hence the noise), because that was the slowest speed film i could find around my house. gah.

we got slide film to experiment with lomo cams. just need to find somewhere that does cross processing.

second time's a charm. if not for the unsteadyness

the bf is so clever. i don't care, digitally enhancing pictures is still a skill.

a skill quite useful if your digicam isn't at least 6 megapixels (mine is 4). even though 6 megapix cams can get pretty decent shots, it's still important to run your photos through photoshop or lightroom for finishing touches, but more importantly for getting the most out of your camera. there are a thousand and one tutorials out there on digital touching up... so i'll just shove a small comparison.

the one on the right has went through photoshop. it's visibly sharper, and there's more detail in the pancakes and the glass in the top right corner. it's been desaturated and channel contrasts were adjusted, but that depends on personal preference. not everything will come out perfect (some parts will look over-exposed), so i usually do some layer manipulation. i finally put a gradient screen layer over the picture, et voila.

i guess a general rule of thumb for me would be to never airbrush pictures. they'll end up looking unnaturally smooth and edited. i would at most, use the clone stamp or healing brush, but sparingly.
